Winter Wilderness Adventure in Maine We stayed at the Lodge on Moose Lake in February. Way cold outside, but the room was warm and inviting, great food, and spectacular views of the lake. Joyce booked a dog sled ride; little did we know that we were able to do this on our own with a little instruction to drive the team ourselves. The trip was filled with hours of fun; an experience for our bucket list! Fang, Bacardi, Slate and Mango are some of the beautiful dogs that will take you on your own mini Iditarod if you sign up for the dog sled trip while staying at The Lodge at Moosehead Lake. It’s an adventure not to be missed and “Yes” you do get to mush the dogs yourself. If you love dogs and watching them run, don’t hesitate – Just do it!

Dog Sledding Adventure in Maine We loved dogsledding with a professional team along the pristine, snow-covered trails. This exhilarating trip was no doubt a highlight of our time at the Lodge at Moosehead Lake. I didn’t know we would be “mushing” a dog sled team ourselves, but I’m so glad it was done that way. The dogs are brilliant and amazingly know exactly where to go. We enjoyed learning about the animals, taking in the scenery, and most of all the memories of gliding through the evergreen trees in total silence, except for the hushed pat-pat of dog feet on the fresh, white snow.

Maine Dog Sledding Our dog-sledding trip was one of the best experiences of my life hands down. From learning about the dogs and seeing their living environments to guiding my own sleigh, every moment was memorable! Traveling through the scenic Maine Woods on a gorgeous white snow-covered tree trail gave me such a feeling of independence and connection with nature. I can’t help but take myself back there almost every time I close my eyes!
