It's a fact that more moose live in the North Woods of Maine than anywhere else in New England so the chance to view them in their natural habitat is great. The months of May, June and July are primary Moose sighting opportunities, but you can see moose long into October.
Undoubtedly the highlight of your visit to Maine will be observing a MOOSE up close in its natural habitat. The Moosehead Lake region supports the largest population of moose in the lower forty-eight states. Here, moose outnumber people 3 to 1. There are several different tours available for your consideration. The Lodge specializes in providing our guests with a once in a lifetime adventure.
LODGE MOOSE SAFARI

Enjoy a private canoe journey to a remote mountain pond with our Registered Maine Guide who will pick you up at the Lodge. You’ll drive approximately 30 minutes into the backcountry where canoes are waiting. Just imagine paddling on a pristine pond, sighting a large “rock” and then with a loud swish a massive head springs from the water and looks directly at you…it’s a thrill you’ll never forget. Just make sure you have your camera. What attracts moose to bodies of water is the aquatic vegetation that they feed on during the summer months. Along the way you might see deer, loons, osprey, possibly a bald eagle, beaver, snowshoe hare, gray squirrel and even otters. Prime viewing for moose runs from June to October.
Trips are in the early morning and afternoon. Cost for 2 people is $195.00. The Lodge will provide you with a Safari Box for breakfast or our Moose-A-Lix™ trail mix for afternoon adventures.
ECO NATURALIST TOUR
Join our Registered Maine Guide on the back roads of the mountains northeast of Moosehead Lake in search of moose, beaver, and other wildlife.

Along the trip you will hear about Native American Indian legends and facts, the ecology of the area and the habits of our glorious moose and other wildlife. These trips are 3 to 4 hours in length and are done by Jeep.
You can enjoy an Eco Tour from the last week of April through November. It is also an alternative to a Moose Safari during Moose hunting week of October 13th. Trips can leave in the morning or afternoon from the Lodge and are $195 per couple. The Jeep holds a maximum of 3 guests. The Lodge will provide you with either a breakfast box or Moose-A-Lix™ trail mix for your trip.
MOOSE CRUISE

The Moose Cruise leaves from the Birches Resort in Rockwood (about 25 minutes from the Lodge) at 7:00 am or 4:00 pm each day. The ride includes a boating excursion on Moosehead Lake into a river that meanders into a wildlife sanctuary to view moose as they go about their daily routine. A minimum of 4 must be registered before the cruise embarks and the pontoon boat will hold up to 20. Rates are $35/person for morning and $45/person for afternoon. The cruise lasts about 2 hours.
