What do we do???!!

How big is Moosehead Lake?

Moosehead Lake is the largest body of water east of the Mississippi within the confines of one state, measuring approximately 40 miles long and 22 miles wide. This can, of course, vary depending on who you talk to!! The lake actually freezes 3-4' thick during the winter!

Will we really see Moose?

99.9% of the time YES...PROVIDED...you adjust to the schedule of a Moose!!! The best times to see them revolve around their feeding times early in the morning (dawn) and later in the afternoon towards evening. The Moose population in Maine is estimated at approximately 30,000. Make sure you bring your camera!

Can we see Moose year-round?

Not as easily from October-April, but mid-May through the 3rd week of September are the best times.

Can we make reservations for our outdoor activities when we check in at the Lodge?

Don't be disappointed!!! Make your reservations WELL IN ADVANCE to guarantee your adventure(s) and your preferred date(s) and time(s).

If we aren't athletic should we really come to Moosehead?

By all means YES!!!!! You can spend the days lounging on our decks or patios and being waited on hand & foot! Lily Bay State Park offers a pebble beach, b-b-q grills, and easy walking trails. The Katahdin an old boom steamer offers 3 hour lake excursions. You may even want to take an aerial tour of the lake via a "float plane". In the village, you'll find 7-8 interesting shops to browse through. Then there is nothing more enjoyable than our evening sound & light show......magnificent sunsets fade into clear skies filled with millions of stars, the fireflies light up our field, and in the background you'll hear the Loons calling out to you.....The simple pleasures of life at The Lodge at Moosehead Lake.

Is there any shopping around?

As you enter Maine from the South, your first shopping stop would be the Kittery Outlets (which we personally prefer). An hour up I-95 is Freeport . . . you guessed it L.L. BEAN. While in Freeport if hunger strikes . . . start your North Woods experience by snacking at the Broad Arrow Tavern (another personal favorite!!) at the Harraseeket Inn. Once in Greenville you'll find a variety of shops...rustic antiques to casual clothing. And, here at the Lodge you'll find Miss Elaine E. Moose's Moo-see-um, a moosterly arranged miscellaneum of take home gifts! If you are traveling to or from the White Mountains, you'll find great Outlet Shopping in North Conway which is tax free. Keep in mind that the majority of merchants will ship for you . . . be sure to ask! We do & they should.

What is Fly-In?

It can best be described as a reunion of pilots and spectators from all over the World who converge on Moosehead Lake each September the weekend after Labor Day; this year's dates are September 7-10, 2006. Anyone who has any interest in planes will enjoy their time here . . . whether participating in or watching any of the float plane contests or having an interest in buying, selling, or learning about planes, you'll have a fascinating time. During Fly-In weekend, the Greenville Municipal Airport welcomes over 250 small craft and over 100 float planes on the Lake. Another attraction is that the only DC-3 on floats in the world, is right here in Greenville! If you are a pilot, think about getting your float plane certification . . . staying here at the Lodge we'll be able to help you with all the arrangements!!!

I have my own plane, can I fly into Greenville?

Yes!! From Cubs to small jets you'll find two runways: 14-32 is a 4,000 foot lit runway with GPS Approach for Runway 14, 3-21 is a 3,000 foot runway which is not lighted. You'll find clearance delivery on 22.3 (Bangor Flight Service). 100 LL Avgas is available. To answer any questions concerning the airport, flying instructions, float plane certification, maintenance, etc. please call Max Folsom 207-695 -2821. Bruce or Max can assist with rental vehicle arrangements.

When is "Foliage"?

USUALLY, beginning around the 17th of September through mid-October....don't wait to make those reservations!!!!!

We'd rather come in the Winter, what's to do?

Down hill skiing, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, dog sledding, snow mobiling, AND what's wrong with doing absolutely NOTHING & being pampered while doing it?? Snuggle up in the Great Room in front of a roaring fire, put your feet up, sip a favorite beverage, nibble on something delicious, & then just ssssnnnoooooozzzzzzzzzeeee off! We won't let anyone disturb you!!!

What nights do you serve dinner?

December 29th, 2005 - April 2, 2006, dinner is offered on Friday and Saturday evenings. May 1- October 30 2006 nightly except Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, November 1 to the 26th it is back to Friday and Saturday only. On our "off" nights we will help you select from Greenville's local eateries.
Please note that we will be offering a "Special Thanksgiving Feast and our Celebration of New Years Eve" Call 207 695-4400 for details.

Is there a reason you don't give "tours" of the Lodge to folks not staying with you?

Yes, to insure the privacy of our houseguests, and the front door is kept locked for this same reason. Houseguests are given the combination upon check-in.

We've tried for two years to make reservations at the Lodge and each time we call you're full!! What do we do???!!

DON'T PROCRASTINATE!!!! We only have 8 accommodations and we fill them quickly. SO, as soon as you see one of our ad's, visit our Web site, read about us in one of the guide books or national magazines....MAKE THAT CALL!!!
