Mother, son, daughter, daughter-in-law and grand daughter all stayed at the lodge to celebrate the completion of the Appalachian trail by the grandson. They are all avid hikers and wanted to experience what their grandson was experiencing as he finished this momentous goal at Katahdin. In the process they came across other hikers as well. A couple of young men had very bad equipment including broken hiking sticks.  This group, replaced their polls and they were off for more adventure.  The next day, they came across a hiker that was very sick.  They took him to the local hospital to find out he had pneumonia.  They got him antibiotics and a hotel room for the night. This group was truly Trail Angels and I’m sure angels no matter where they go. We welcome them back to Moosehead any time.

Maine is the beating heart of traditional rural America. It`s a land of tranquil fishing villages, white wooden church steeples and all-American clapboard houses, a region where colonial Inns serve up an abundance of delicious wholesome foods such as succulent blueberry pie, waffles with maple syrup and fresh shellfish and lobster.

The rugged wilderness of Northern Maine, the highlands and Aristook county appeal to anyone seeking a holiday with a real get-away-from-it-all feel. The passing seasons make this area a year-round delight, with nature painting its vivid colours across the landscape. You may of wondered why we use eagles to represent our honeymoon and anniversary package.   Eagle pairs mate for life, although if one dies, the other will promptly find a new mate. Each couple stakes out a territory of about two miles square and protects it from all other eagles. Nests are built in high trees or in rocky crags, and can reach five feet or more in diameter. There they care for and raise the few chicks that hatch each year, training them to carving a living out of the North woods. Only one to three eggs are laid, and those only when the weather and conditions seem good for raising a chick. The eggs are incubated for just over a month, and after three to four months, they are flying and almost self sufficient.

Bald Eagles have come back from endangered species status and have rebuilt a stable population.  They can live for up to thirty years and can be spotted in many areas of the Moosehead Lake area in quiet isolation.
