We tackled refurbishing the Guest Pantry to improve the look and functionality for our guests just in time for the New Year’s Eve weekend.  We found 3 layers of flooring that was removed and replaced with ceramic tile, added a smaller refrigerator, small sink with instant hot water for teas and hot chocolate and built in trash receptacle below the sink. The counter top was also replaced with New England Red slate.  With all our remodeling projects, we aim to maintain the original feel of the lodge and we think we have. Now we have much more usable space for snacks and beverages available anytime.

The lodge is all decked out for the holidays with lights trimming the eaves and fireplace mantel, Christmas stockings on the dining chairs, large poinsettias, greenery down the railing, fresh wreaths on all the dining room winters and much more. The Katahdin Suite – often called the most romantic room at the Lodge has a newly remodeled bathroom complete with tile floor, enlarged tile shower with rain shower head, tiled double jacuzzi-style tub and double vanity.  This vanity is a piece of art and not to be found anywhere else.  The vanity is made from rustic wood found on the property and finished with real copper top.  Notice the birch wood door inserts.  The middle section, that looks like 3 drawers is actually a compact refrigerator.  And don’t forget the bathroom fireplace…what a treat.

It has been said by many a visitor to the Moosehead lake area, that the Lodge at Moosehead Lake has one of the most beautiful and panoramic views. “We want to share this view, but as a private retreat, it is not open for public viewing.  Therefore the next best is to capture it in a way that allows others to know the beauty this area has to offer.” explained Linda Bortis, owner of the Lodge.  Four hand-selected and accomplished artists, all with a true love for Maine and its ever changing landscapes are coming to the Lodge. Each artist sees the world in her or his unique way.  It’s this sharing of perspective that enriches us.

• Evelyn Dunphy, West Bath, ME – The first artist to receive the Natural Resource Council of Maine’s “People’s Choice” award for her contribution to conservation in Maine, she was also the first “Visiting Artist” in Baxter State Park in 2009.
• Michael Boardman, North Yarmouth, ME – Michael works as much as possible from life and can often be found hiking or kayaking the wilds of Maine with his painting kit strapped to his back.
• Carolyn Walton, Freeport, ME -Walton creates a lovely essay of rolling terrain and undulating fields that radiate both with the affection she obviously feels for the scenery she observes and for the act of painting itself.
• Bruce MacDonald, Boothbay, ME – My goal is to figure out what is compelling about a scene in front of me, get rid of the extraneous details, and focus on the big forms, with their colors, sunlit elements, and shadows.

LOCATION: 2.5 miles north of Greenville on the lake side of the road.

With Fallow deer antlers, a copper plate and birch lampshade, we created this sconce that now lights the hall outside the Moose Room.

Northwoods Chic is the rustic elegance you’ve come to expect at the Lodge at Moosehead Lake.   In the last few months we have picked out items needing updating.  These two chairs in the Great Room of the Lodge are set for guest viewing of the magnificent sunsets every night.
