Plan your next cross country ski trip to the winter wonderland of Moosehead Lake. We here at the Lodge at Moosehead Lake want you to get the most out of your cross country skiing vacation so below is our recommendations. Based on your experience level and how long you want to be skiing for we will be able to point you in the best direction.
A Fierce Chase:
A Fierce ChaseWe are very fortunate to have a "World Class" cross country skiing center just minutes from the Lodge at Moosehead Lake. A Fierce Chase offers skiers the ability for free-style classic skiing on 10 km of 20-25 ft. wide trails groomed trails. The trails were designed as specifically as ski trails for novice and intermediate skiers, with long, gentle winding runs and hills with gradual inclines, long runouts, and wide corners to provide safer maneuverability. For the more adventurous, 4 km of 12 Ft. wide woodland trails wind throughout mixed woodlands, sheltering trails from wind blown conditions and offering views of Borestone Mt. and Buck hill. Warming huts with restrooms, changing area and wood stove and plenty of room to relax also available on weekends only you can enjoy homemade soups and breads.
Lily Bay State Park:
Lily Bay State ParkThis beautiful 925 acre State Park was recognized by Travel Holiday as "One of the Country's Best State Parts". In the winter the park is open to cross country skiing on the miles of carriage roads that meander through out the park and is only 6 1/2 miles from the Lodge at Moosehead Lake.
Birches Resort:
The Birches Located in Rockwood and less than a half hour from the Lodge at Moosehead Lake is the Birches resort, a 11,000 acre wilderness resort that offers over 20 km of groomed cross country skiing trails.
West Branch Pond Camps:
Come to West Branch Pond Camps and enjoy a day in the most tranquil winter setting the Moosehead Lake region has to offer. The views are spectacular with over 15kms of combined cross country and snowshoe trails winding through dark spruce forest, over hardwood ridges and along the shores of three remote ponds. Wildlife such as red fox, snowshoe hare, and bobcat live in the area and moose frequently wander across the trails. Enjoy a hearty bowl of chili and hot corn bread by the wood stove in the "Big Kitchen" while warming up between treks. Trail maps are available when you arrive and there is terrain for all abilities. Our trails are packed by snowmobile by not set with tracks. Day trail pass is only $10.00 and Lunch is $8.00 and includes soup of the day or a sandwich, chips and drink.
Cross Country Skiing
Winter Wonderland:
Right here in Moosehead Lake and only 30 minutes from the Lodge where you will find incredible trails...over 30 kilometers, machine tracked...on the 11,000 acre wilderness preserve at the Birches Touring Center. As a guest of the Lodge you will receive complimentary ski passes. Rental equipment is available. Après ski...relax in the Birches dining room with cocktails or lunch.

Downhill Skiing
Squaw Mountain Ski Area, vertical drop of 1,750', 28 trails for day time skiing. Lifts: 1 triple chair, 1 double chair, 1 T-bar, and 1 handle tow. Just 20 minutes from the Lodge. Relaxed skiing...don't worry about color coordinated outfits or high prices...just ENJOY the natural beauty of the trails offering spectacular views of Moosehead Lake.
